City rules

Version 1, updated 69 rules in 13 sections History

NightCore RP is a serious roleplay city: Night City, 2085. Play it like a second life, as close to real life as the year allows. These rules apply to everyone in the city, on this website and in our Discord. Not knowing a rule is not an excuse, so read them all once.

1Roleplay first

  1. 1.1
Everything you do in the city is your character doing it. Play a believable person living a believable life, not a game character chasing points.
  2. 1.2
Stay in character at all times while you are in the city. If something must be said out of character, use /ooc, keep it short, and go back to the scene.
  3. 1.3
Never break a scene to argue about it. Play it out, then open a ticket on the website if you think a rule was broken.
  4. 1.4
Treat the city as real. Shops close, bills arrive, wounds hurt and the NCPD answers crimes. React to the world the way a real person would.
  5. 1.5
Time in the city runs at 2 city hours per real hour, so a city day is 12 real hours. Plan your character's life around city time: nights are dark and dangerous, offices keep office hours.
  6. 1.6
Voice is in character. Music, soundboards and background noise you can't control belong on push-to-talk or off.

2Knowledge and names

  1. 2.1
There are no name tags. You know someone's name only when they tell you, show you their ID, or you learn it in roleplay (a business card, a news article, a police record).
  2. 2.2
Player IDs are shown only on request, for reports and staff work. Never use an ID, a voice you recognise or an account name to identify a character.
  3. 2.3
No metagaming: what you learn out of character (Discord, a stream, a friend's call, the website's staff pages) is unknown to your character until they learn it in the city.
  4. 2.4
Night City News articles on this website are public in the city. Your character may have read them.
  5. 2.5
No playing with information from a call or chat with other players in the same scene ("ghosting"). If you are in a scene together, talk in the city.

3Your character

  1. 3.1
One citizen per OPEN//77 account. Your character is 18 to 90 years old, with a believable name, a past and a reason to be in Night City.
  2. 3.2
No celebrities, no famous Night City figures from the games, no copies of real people, no troll or joke names.
  3. 3.3
Your character has a body: they eat, drink, sleep somewhere and need money. A starving or parched character collapses (they drop to their last strength and can barely move) rather than dying. Play the collapse until someone helps or you eat.
  4. 3.4
Your character can't know everything or do everything. Skills come from the life you have played: a new arrival is not a master hacker, a surgeon and a getaway driver at once.
  5. 3.5
A character change (name, story, a new start) goes through a support ticket. Staff may ask why.

4Value your life

  1. 4.1
Act as if you have only one life. When you are outgunned, outnumbered or held at gunpoint, comply. Fear is part of roleplay.
  2. 4.2
Don't joke, taunt or fight back from a position you would not survive. Making the scene "fun" by ignoring a gun to your head ruins it for everyone else.
  3. 4.3
Value other people's lives too. Killing must be the last step of a story, never its start.
  4. 4.4
Injury is real. After you are hurt or revived, play the injury: limp, slow down, see a doctor, skip the fight.

5Violence and conflict

  1. 5.1
No random deathmatch (RDM): never attack, injure or kill someone without a roleplay reason both sides can see, such as a threat, a demand or an earlier scene.
  2. 5.2
Initiate clearly before violence: make your demand or threat in voice or with /me, and give the other side a fair moment to answer. A shout across a street during a car chase is not initiation.
  3. 5.3
No vehicle deathmatch (VDM): a vehicle is not a weapon. Ramming someone on purpose needs a strong roleplay reason and is treated like an assault.
  4. 5.4
No powergaming: never force an outcome on someone, act out impossible feats, or use /me to decide what happens to another character. Write what you try, not what happens.
  5. 5.5
No revenge killing: if a scene ended, it ended. Coming back to kill someone needs a new reason, not the same grudge from five minutes ago.
  6. 5.6
Hostages and kidnappings need a story, fair treatment and an end. No holding someone for hours, no taking people only to strip their pockets, and never someone on duty in an emergency service just to bait a response.
  7. 5.7
No shooting from vehicles or across long distances to start a fight. Long-range violence is the end of a scene, never its opening.

6Injury, death and permanent death

  1. 6.1
When you go down you stay down. Call Trauma Team from your holophone or wait for a medic. Don't respawn while a scene is still running around you.
  2. 6.2
New life rule: after you go down, you don't remember the events that put you down, who did it or where it happened. You don't go back for revenge and you don't return to the scene.
  3. 6.3
Waking up alone at Vik's clinic leaves you badly hurt for a while. Play it: rest, see a medic, no fights.
  4. 6.4
Permanent death of a character (they are gone for good) happens only:
    • with your consent, in a scene you agreed to, or
    • by a staff ruling, for repeated rule-breaking with that character, or
    • as a sentence handed down by the city's court after a trial.
  5. 6.5
Nobody else can decide your character dies for good. A request for permanent death, from you or about someone else, goes through a support ticket.

7Crime and the law

  1. 7.1
Crime is part of the city, but it needs a story: plan it, carry it out, live with the consequences. Crime for money alone, with no roleplay, is grinding.
  2. 7.2
The city's laws are on this website. Officers enforce them; courts and lawyers argue them. Criminals know they exist.
  3. 7.3
NCPD officers are real people doing a real job. Respect a lawful stop and expect to be searched, fined, booked or charged.
  4. 7.4
No crime in or right outside a hospital, the NCID desk or the employment agency. These are where the city's newcomers and wounded are.
  5. 7.5
No crime against people in their first hour in the city. Let new citizens find their feet.
  6. 7.6
Shop robberies have a cooldown the city enforces. Don't camp a shop waiting for it to reopen.
  7. 7.7
No baiting police or medics to farm a response, and no crimes planned only to pull every officer off the street.
  8. 7.8
Corruption (a dirty cop, a crooked medic) is a story staff must approve first. Ask with a support ticket.

8Emergency services and jobs

  1. 8.1
NCPD officers, Trauma Team medics and mechanics are played by real people. If nobody is on shift, nobody comes. Be patient.
  2. 8.2
Don't call 911, a medic or a cab for nothing. Abusing the emergency lines is a crime in the city and a rule break here.
  3. 8.3
On-duty medics are neutral. Don't target them while they are treating someone, and don't hide behind them.
  4. 8.4
Clock in only when you work. Wages are paid for time actually worked; idling on duty, or staying on duty while doing something else, is against the rules.
  5. 8.5
Respect the chain of command in your job. A boss runs their company in roleplay, inside these rules.

9Money and fair play

  1. 9.1
No real money, anywhere. Never buy, sell or trade eddies, items, vehicles, homes, accounts or services for real money or anything outside the city. Doing so ends in a permanent ban.
  2. 9.2
The website's market and the Nine Lives casino use your in-game bank account only. Nothing here is for sale.
  3. 9.3
No cheats, mods that give an advantage, exploits, duplication or bug abuse. Found a bug? Report it on the website, don't use it.
  4. 9.4
No combat logging: leaving the game, crashing on purpose or switching servers to escape a scene. If your game really crashed, come back and say so in /ooc or a ticket.
  5. 9.5
No alternative accounts to dodge a ban, a sentence or a cooldown.
  6. 9.6
No farming: repeating an action for money or items without roleplay.

10Respect and safety

  1. 10.1
No harassment, hate speech, discrimination or slurs, in character or out. Some things are never roleplay.
  2. 10.2
No sexual content. Romance in roleplay stays tasteful and fades to black.
  3. 10.3
Heavy themes (torture, abuse, suicide) need the clear consent of everyone in the scene, out of character. Anyone may stop a scene with /ooc at any time, and that is respected.
  4. 10.4
No real-life threats, doxxing or sharing other people's private information. This ends in a permanent ban and may be reported.
  5. 10.5
Respect streamers and their viewers. Stream sniping (using a stream to find or follow someone) is metagaming.

11Driving and the world

  1. 11.1
Drive like the city is real: roads, traffic, pedestrians. Stunt driving through crowds or over rooftops is not roleplay.
  2. 11.2
Park where a real car could park. Vehicles left in roads or doorways may be towed and impounded.
  3. 11.3
Use the world as it is. No hiding inside walls, under the map or in places a person couldn't reach.
  4. 11.4
Respect property. Breaking into homes and businesses needs a story and is a crime in the city.

12Staff

  1. 12.1
Support, moderators and admins are out of character when they act as staff. Follow their instructions, and take any disagreement to a support ticket, not the scene.
  2. 12.2
Staff play characters too. When they play, they play under these rules and get no advantage from being staff.
  3. 12.3
Staff don't punish people in character and don't use staff tools to help their own character.
  4. 12.4
Breaking a rule can mean a warning, a kick, time out of the city or a ban, depending on how serious it is and whether it keeps happening. Serious breaches (cheating, real money, real-life threats) go straight to a ban.
  5. 12.5
Every staff decision can be appealed on the website. Appeals are read by staff who were not involved.

13This website and Discord

  1. 13.1
Our Discord and this website are out of character, except Night City News articles, which are in character.
  2. 13.2
Your whitelist application must be your own work. Copied answers mean a denied application.
  3. 13.3
Be patient and polite in tickets. Staff answer in order.
  4. 13.4
Don't post rule breaks publicly to shame someone. Report them with a ticket and let staff handle it.
