New to serious roleplay? This page explains the habits that make NightCore work. The rules are the reference; this is the how.
In character, out of character
- In character (IC) is your character speaking and acting. Voice, local chat and
/meare always in character. - Out of character (OOC) is you, the player. Use
/ooc, keep it short, and only when needed. - Discord and this website are out of character, except Night City News articles.
Writing a good /me
/me describes what your character does that the game can't show. Write what you try, not what happens to someone else.
- Good:
/me reaches slowly for the wallet in his jacket, eyes on the gun. - Not this:
/me grabs the gun out of her hand and knocks her out. That decides the outcome for someone else (powergaming).
Names and faces
- Nobody has a name tag. Introduce yourself; ask theirs. Remember faces and voices, as a real person would.
- Player IDs are shown only on request, for reports. Don't use them to identify a character.
When something goes wrong
- Play the scene out. Then open a support ticket with what happened, when and where.
- Got a clip? Link it in the ticket. Staff look at evidence, not arguments.
Nothing matches. Try a shorter word, or ask staff.
